How do you replace the mats of your Chevy Silverado running boards?

One way to ensure your Chevy running boards look spick and span is replacing their mats or pads.  As time goes by, these mats will succumb to constant wear and tear from the sheer weight of the passengers stepping on them.  While going to the nearest car repair shop can help you with that, the cost of buying expensive rubber or plastic mats, plus the fee of having them removed may prove to be more expensive.  However, doing it yourself can save you a few hundred bucks.  Apart from that, it’s extremely easy.  You only need a putty knife to do the trick.  You may also need a screw driver for plastic mats.

Before you go into the procedure, you need to make sure that you have the right set of mats for your Silverado running boards.  If your running boards are not manufactured in the same company as your pickup trucks, you need to look for the mats built by the same manufacturer of the running boards.  This ensures that you are getting the correct mat and that these will be installed easily on your running board’s metal surface.  Just refer to your running boards’ documentation to know the specifics of your running board.  You can buy these replacement mats online or your local car accessory shop.

After removing the adhesive residue, use a sand blaster to get rid of the rusts as well as the corroded metal.  You can also use an abrasive metal wool to remove the rusted areas if you do not have a sand blaster.  If the rusting and corrosion is very severe, you can replace the rusted parts with a sheet metal.  Just weld the metal sheet in the affected area and sand the metal until they’re flat and level with the rest of the Chevy truck steps metal body.  Afterwards, drill the holes on the sheet metal to accommodate the screws of the new slip-free strips or mats to keep them in place.
